I am about to start a new jacket and would like to improve on this one. I would like to have the it a little longer say about 1/2 inch.
If length is added to the bottom hem, will it disrupt the overall balance/look of the jacket?
Would the pockets need to be cut lower?
Or should the patter be slashed at the wait line?
Button spacing starts 3 1/2” for a 5ft 8” figure and increases 1/8” for every one inch added to height.
The waist line is dictated by the head unit. 2 HU gives the waist line and 3 1/2 HU plus 1/2” for the length.
Pocket placement is generally governed by the second button. No more than a half inch below the pocket or a quarter inch above.
Button spacing is based on height as is coat length and scye depth. All are listed on the measurement chart.
I’m not an advocate for slashing patterns. I’m not saying it doesn’t work but rather I don’t work that way.
Can anyone confirm that the measurement chart is available with the drafting instructions?
Those pockets probably could come down slightly. Slashing the pattern would be the safest bet. Or you can just use the old pattern and re-draw a new one around it, moving the pattern down when you reach the waistline to lengthen it accordingly. I'd probably move the waistline and suppression down too. So, probably I would be inclined to 'lengthen' the top part rather than the bottom part, if you get my meaning.
