It’s finally here folks, the trouser making series. After much discussion with students past and present we decide to start with a belt loop style. We did include side straps as requested, this allows one to make either a high rise straight top trouser or a low rise belt loop style, or vice versa.
We have released part 1 for now, which is about 80% of the construction. So far we have from draft to first fitting, which will be followed shortly by all the finishing work. Part 2 will be released on or before Feb 25th.
Believe it or not but Savile Row Trouser makers only make the trouser up to the fitting stage, after any alterations are made they are passed to the finisher for hand sewing.
It takes a trouser maker about 6 hrs to make the fitting for which they are paid about £180. The finisher then does about 3 hours of hand sewing for they are paid £35.
If you never thought that wage disparity was a thing, think again. Most trouser makers are men and most finishers are women.
Tut tut, Savile Row.

Will you add additional videos with more traditional bespoke thechniques for a half band top brace trouser model with less fusing in the future??? That would be great.
I am looking forward to see your new Men's Bespoke Trouser Making - Belt Loop Style. I have watched your first video of Row Coat. I am curious if you have instruction for the trouser and measurement on how to do it like you have the attachment for the row coat.
Best
Micheal
Nothing but support for Rory and Co. These videos are amazing and, as a pure hobbyist, I am learning more than I could in (literally) years of self-practice / random youtube/forum searching.
I am going to echo Jeroen a bit here, but spin in a few other “perspective” points.
First, there is always a bit of a knee jerk reaction to try and compare subscribing to this video series with a Netflix subscription cost wise. Having been in the business world for 28 years, and having owned my own company as well, there is a particular principle known as “economies of scale”. The more your revenue base scales in size, the less the overall cost of the overhead to produce becomes as a percentage of revenue. Netflix has in the neighborhood of 200 million subscribers. 200 million. Let that number sink in. Using just the base subscription cost, that is nearly $3 billion dollars in revenue MONTHLY, a staggering $36 billion annually. As the users continue to scale up, the less it costs them to support the total number of users, and they have piles of cash to throw at original programming and the like. So, in the end, one simply cannot compare the subscription cost of Netflix to Rory’s video series (insert Sean Bean meme here). Obviously, as Rory increases his number of subscribers, it will have a similar impact, and we will be able to enjoy the effects in future subscriptions. Of course, WE can all do our part to help Rory increase his subscriber base by spreading the good word about just how awesome Rory is.
Next, if you look at alternatives, such as the American Bespoke Academy (just as an example), the tuition for that course is equal to 11.5 years of subscribing to both the coat and trouser series. 11.5 years. Over a decade of access. This is similarly comparable to taking Rory’s one on one online courses. With these video series, if you are applying what you are learning with regular practice and repetition, you should really only need the videos for a short time until the principles are permanently etched into your psyche. And you still have the complete availability of Rory via the forum for questions, clarifications, odd scenarios, etc..
Lastly, my favorite example I used frequently with my own web based company, is this: do some light math on how many times you drop by the local barista for that latte you love. How many times a week do you do that? A month? If I were to hit Starbuck’s 3 times a week, I’d be spending US$48 a month.....on coffee. And there was a time when I did that. Many of us during the last year have turned to food delivery services as a quick and convenient means of getting a meal. I watch my stepdaughter, who works from home, get food delivered at least twice a day, sometimes three. Excluding just the sheer cost of the food, the markups and delivery fees on that service are astronomical. I honestly don’t think she has ever really looked at her total spend on a monthly basis, because it’s easy, and it isn’t at the forefront of her mind.
Bottom line on all of this, when you apply perspective, you will quickly realize you are getting a tremendous education at a really low, fair price. Having spent three days a week for the last month with Rory, I can say this much with certainty. Teaching is his passion. Sharing is his passion. And he is exceptional at both. He wants to expand access to something that quite honestly has never been so readily available to so many, in a way and a format that really gets down to the brass tacks. I enthusiastically appreciate his vision, and what he is doing with all of this. And damn, can he be funny 😄.
So, before you reflexively balk at the subscription cost on this, take the time to properly compare it to other subscriptions and costs you pay for other things and services, in the appropriate perspective, and balance it against how much you are actually getting out of it.
And Rory? Thank you so much for putting all of this together.
I've currently only subscribed to the coat making course which I'm working through but I have already learnt so much.
I wouldn't hesitate to subscribe to the other courses when I have the time to do so as I think they're great value for money. I am a third year Costume Production University student paying £9250 to not have access to my Uni resources, space or teaching and I've learnt way more from Rory in a couple of weeks about making than I have the last year working from home with the teaching my University has provided.
I'm sure these courses are benefiting many people as well as other students who are getting no value for money from their current degrees and want to continue to learn and develop new skills.
@Lala Rausch @Benjamin are correct, when we initially offered out the video series, the intention was to add more videos at no extra cost. The original plan was to charge a fee of 50 per month, in line with LinkedIn and Rosetta Stone. My free video series “The Making of a Coat”, received over 2 m views and brought 16k subscribers to the channel. But we haven’t seen that level of success here. When I started shooting the two video series we have now I invested in two separate companies €3800 to deliver both video series, both failed to do so. Leaving me in debt and no recourse. Desirée and I decided then to make the video series ourselves. We invested in equipment, camera, laptop (for editing) as well as tripods and stands. Both of us had to learn new skills to make this series possible, after experiencing two teams with the necessary skills fail to do the same. I did certainly over estimate how successful these series would be. Colleges and universities who offer in-house courses on bespoke tailoring during Covid who couldn’t honour the agreement with their students, didn’t want to pick up the video series either. No one is expecting you to subscribe to two series but if you decided to do so, you will still be able to access the knowledge of a three piece suit for 50 quid a month. (Waistcoat will be delivered at 15 quid a month) The final shoot of this video series will be finished this weekend and then we will be on to the waistcoat. I will commit to keeping the video series subscription fee to a minimum. We will continue to add new video series often and with fresh content. So you can continue to develop your skills at rock bottom prices.
This was supposed to be part of the coat making series and all future videos Including this one. This is what I was told when I subscribed. Now it says I have to subscribe separately to pay for the trousers one. Unless it’s just me and I can’t access the new video. I hope this is the case :)
