Hello HTA,
I am currently going through the video series for a last review before finally starting with my first attempt. I noticed that Rory mentions there is a dart in the lining of the forepart, which is half dart, half pleat?
This dartpleat is marked onto the forepart lining and put aside during the fixing of the coat, and only re-appears in Ep. 29 for the lining of the foreparts, with this dartpleat already machined in. I can't seem to find when exactly this is done in the videoseries.
I was curious about this, because I believe this is the only part where Rory machines the lining, and personally I've had trouble before machining slippery fabrics, so I was actually curious if he had any tips or tricks regarding this process, but, like I mentioned, I can't find where (and whether) he does it on camera. Anyone have any feedback?
Huh, must have missed that bit. Come down about 2" from the armhole and sew into the waist and out to the end of the dart. Have the pleat about 1/4" in depth. You can use the edge of a ruler to help crease the lining in the centre of the dart before sewing. You could even place pins along the dart to stop it from twisting.
