Hand Sewing with The HTA

how to use a needle & Thimble

Probably one of the most important skills to learn is sewing with a thimble. We all resist this in the beginning; it feels so unnatural until it doesn’t. Most tailors can’t do a single stitch without wearing their thimble.

Needles & Threads

Small needles for small stitches and big needles for big stitches. Threads vary in composition as well as thickness and strengths. Basting cotton is pure cotton and so is quite weak in strength. Its only purpose is to hold the material together before it is permanently stitched by hand or machine.

Basting Stitches

Definitely the “tailor’s stitch”. Basting is used to hold and create shape throughout the garment making process.
